Jordan Lambropoulos’ twin pregnancy shock after Crohn’s disease stem-cell treatment left her ‘infertile’

An Australian-first stem cell treatment was expected to have a life-altering side effect for the young woman.

Influencer and Crohn’s disease advocate Jordan Lambropoulos was told she would be infertile following a life-changing stem-cell transplant she underwent last year.

In an attempt to save her chances of creating her dream family she underwent “incredibly invasive” egg retrieval surgery when she was 24 years old.

But before she had a chance to use the eggs she retrieved Jordan discovered she had fallen pregnant naturally with twins.

“It’s crazy, just over a year ago I didn’t think I would even see my next birthday and now here I am pregnant with twins,” she told The Advertiser.

“This was an absolute miracle.”

Jordan is 14-weeks pregnant and is due at the end of February 2025.

“They’re so active and wriggly, they’re already copying each other, doing the same movements,” she said. “It’s really cute.”

The sexes of the babies are still unknown as Jordan is waiting to discover them via ultrasound.

The Prospect mum-to-be decided to take a pregnant test after falling asleep at her work desk and missing her period. As her pregnancy progressed she had an overwhelming feeling she was pregnant with twins.

“I messaged my mum and my friends … they (said) ‘Jordan no that’s not possible, twins don’t run in your family’,” she said.

“I went to the appointment … my fertility doctor said to me …‘yeah there’s twins’ and I burst out laughing.”

The 26-year-old went into remission for Crohn’s disease after being the first person in Australia to undergo a stem-cell transplant as a means to treat it.

Prior to the transplant, she was forced to undergo egg retrieval to protect her chances of having her own biological family in the future.

“It feels like this was the universe’s way of saying, you’ve been dealt all these horrible hands in life and we’re about to give you one you have dreamt of for so long,” she said.

Jordan was due to have her ostomy bag, which she has had for two years, reversed 10 days after she discovered she was pregnant.

The news of her pregnancy forced her to cancel the surgery.

“I have a really good relationship with my ostomy and my body image but my first thoughts were, how is that going to look with a pregnant belly?,” she said.

“It sounds very superficial, it was just my initial thought … that settled and now I simply don’t care, but it was something I worked up to and was really looking forward to and then this happened and it was all unexpected.”

Jordan will have to wait to after her pregnancy before looking at her ostomy reserved.
