I found a python in my toddler's room, now she won't sleep in there

"I probably wouldn't sleep in there either," one person commented on the Brisbane mum's post of the curled-up snake.

A Brisbane mum has shared the terrifying moment she found a snake curled up in her kids' bedroom.

The mum from Slacks Creek took to the Brisbane Mums Facebook Group to explain how the incident has left her two-year-old traumatised, unable to sleep in the room with her sibling.

She has been crying, scared and saying 'snake'

"A couple of months ago we had a Carpet Python found in the kids' room," the mum, Steph, began her post, adding, "The cat alerted me about it, waking me up."

For a month afterwards, she let her kids sleep with her in her bed.

Now, she's trying to get them back to their room, but her two-year-old is having trouble sleeping in there.

"For the last two-three nights, she has been crying, scared and saying ‘snake’," she continued.

"We have checked everywhere and moved things and there is no snake. She has been going to bed fine before this.

"Any clue what to do to help her?"

"I wouldn't want to sleep there either"

After seeing the shocking photo, people took to the comments to share their reactions.

"I wouldn’t want to sleep there either, to be honest," one mum admitted.

Another said: "Just looking at this photo gives me chills."

"As an adult, I would be scared for months. Anyone can get PTSD. Give her some time to gain confidence," said a third.

"Changing the room can help, if possible"

Then others shared their helpful suggestions. One person commented. "You could try making up a story using simple puppets or toys you already have of a snake who was curious and visited a house. Then went home into the bushland where she belonged and she lived happily ever after there and so did the family."

"You’re in a tough position... you poor thing, how stressful. I probably would freak out enough not to let her sleep in there," wrote someone else.

Another agreed, "Changing the room can help, if possible."

"Get her a small spritzer bottle, fill it with water/essential oil and tell her it's snake repellent. She can spray it before she goes to bed or any time she's feeling anxious about the snake," wrote this mum.

Others said communication is key.  "Reassure her that there's no snake, that she is safe. Explain that snakes don't attack little girls in bed and he has chosen to sleep somewhere else," suggested one.

Another pointed out: "You said your cat alerted you, maybe tell her that the cat will keep an eye on snakes while she sleeps and he will wake her up if a snake comes?"
