I confronted a supermarket shopper for this 'gross' act

"It’s not a sample, hun. You have to pay for it."

Whether you'd like to admit it or not, we've all been guilty of 'sampling' the produce at supermarkets

The rule is generally to try one and add it to your cart. However, one shopper caught the attention of another, who was using the fruit aisle as a buffet.

On another average shopping trip to Costco, a woman noticed that a shopper was getting a little heavy-handed with the grapes and wasn't shy about it.

While she didn't name and shame the shopper, she filmed the exchange.

"Are you trying all the grapes and putting them back?"

"No, just one," the grape snatcher says.

"OK, because you did it with like three boxes. People buy that," she says as she walks away.

She posted the viral video with the text: "Went to Costco and saw a lady literally opening up 3-4 boxes of grapes and trying a grape from each box then just leaving it..."

But then it got worse when users realised that it wasn't that she was trying them but that she was taking them out and putting them back.

"I thought you meant she was just taking a grape out of the container to try it, but she was putting the grape back!?" one wrote. The poster wrote back, "Yes!"

"That's disgusting!"

It posed an interesting point, given that she would not buy the grapes, merely use them as sustenance as she shopped. What about the other shoppers who bought that box of grapes she put her hand in?

This user had thoughts: "Like one that’s disgusting the people and kids, I see cough and sneeze near/on produce, and you’re EATING IT. And two, it’s stealing technically, and three, I don’t want someone finger f*ckkinnn my grape l want."

"My mum is the try and grape out of each bag and picks the one that she thinks tastes better. I just look at them to see if they look shitty and take a bag. Lol hate shopping with her," another shared.

"People do this all day"

Others shared that they, too, sampled the produce in supermarkets; given the price of fruit these days, you want to know the quality.

"People do this all day, every day, at the grocery stores. They test taste to see whether it’s sweet or not," one wrote.

"I’ve never bought a box of grapes that I didn’t try one from first," another agreed.

Supermarket staff entered the chat to confess their customers' bad habits.

"I had a customer we called 'the grape lady' she would literally come in, eat some grapes, and leave."

"I work at a grocery store, and I cannot stand it; thank you for saying something!" another worker cheered.

"Should be illegal"

When the Kidspot team was asked about their grape-sampling habits, they had some feelings, too.

"Sounds like a grape way to annoy the sh*t out of fellow shoppers. Should be illegal," Carly writes.

Leah, who is no sampling novice, adds: "I sample grapes all the time - even the beans. I also let my children eat the occasional one. This is why I always get the bag at the back of the shelf - they're fuller!"

"I think if you intend to buy grapes, sampling one to see if they are sweet is OK, but eating multiple grapes or sampling grapes from lots of different bags is not acceptable."

"One grape: is OK, two grapes: is stingy, and three is taking the absolute piss," El says, laying down the law.
