There are only three places we can store our shoes, really. 

A) On a shoe rack, which takes up space and doesn't stay organised for more than two days. 

B) In our wardrobes, which are usually very far away from the convenient location of the front door. 

C) And lastly, sprawled across the hallway.

Option C is usually what ends up happening...

But what if there was a more discreet option, that kept your shoes out of sight of both you and your guests?

The hidden shoe storage compartment under the stairs

TikToker Sam James took to his account to share the creative invention and the clip now has over 8 million views and 389k comments. 

The caption reads: "Lost for space?"

Walking towards his carpeted staircase, viewers are none the wiser about what he's about the reveal. The stairs look completely normal and there aren't any signs that they could open up. 

But then James kneels down and lifts up one of the stairs and reveals a hidden cupboard, complete with an in-built, three-tiered shoe rack. 

The storage compartment is able to hold up to 15 pairs of shoes, meaning they'll never clutter the front doorway or hallway again!

It can also be used to store valuables and other belongings

One commenter asked James how he made the contraption, and he tagged the @smartspacestairstorage account, suggesting that the UK-based design company installed it for him. 

On their website, they say that these hidden storage spaces are great for hiding other things other than shoes, such as valuables.

Viewers on the TikTok video were very impressed at the nifty hack and took to the comments to share praise for the idea. 

"Awesome!!" someone wrote.

Another joked: "Oooo yes. More spaces for me to fill with random items and then forget said place. It’s my superpower."

"Make it bigger and I can hide away from my three kids with a bottle of wine,” someone else laughed, to which Sam replied: “Oooooooooo”.

And someone else wrote, "Those shoes would simply cease to exist the second I closed that for the first time. 😂"
