Woolworths shopper scores PlayStation 5 for just $9

A savvy Woolworths shopper has successfully scored the latest PlayStation 5 worth nearly $900 for just $9 with a simple hack.

Woolworths ‘Everyday Rewards Roundup’ reveals your favourite products

Woolworths shoppers are crowing online about scoring one particular gaming console for under $10, taking hundreds of the original price tag.

Two customers have revealed how they took advantage of their Woolworths Everyday Rewards points in order to get their hands on a PlayStation 5, with the latest slim edition of the console costing $889.

Everyday Rewards allows Woolies shoppers to earn points off of their purchases, earning $10 for every 2000 points collected.

Every dollar, bar from a handful of items, allows you to collect one point and the supermarket giant now has the Bank for Christmas program to use points over the holidays.

“A slimline PS5 for $9? Don't mind if I do,” one person posted on Markdown Addicts Australia.

“I used the Everyday app to maximise Rewards Points this year,” she added in the comments.

Another said: “Today I paid $9 for the PS5 bundle through Big W. Using $670 points. I still have $190 left to spend on my rewards.

“Last year I got a Nintendo Switch and a few games completely using rewards points. This year becoming an extra member really benefited my family and doubled that end of year savings,” the savvy shopper explained.

“I’ll never hesitate my membership again. I’ve been stressing about a small Christmas this year but turns out I’m going to have three happy kids come Christmas.”

Social media users were divided on whether this truly counted as a markdown, while others revealed their own wins using rewards.

“I thought my $350 was good. That will pay for our Christmas Day food and maybe some drinks from BWS,” one social media user said.

Another added: “I do Flybuys as we don’t have a Woolies or Big W near us and it’s amazing what you can get. In the last two to three years I have got two Samsung watches, two Samsung ear buds and a whole lot of gift vouchers to use at places such as TK Maxx, Shein, Typo and the list goes on.”

Another said: “Man I thought I was doing well with $170.”

One advised: “You really should put that you used rewards points/dollars for the purchase. It’s not a markdown but you got it cheap due to saving points for the year.”

And another jumped in: “Not really $9 as you could’ve used that $880 towards your groceries.”

In 2023, a record 750,000 members joined the Bank for Christmas program, with most saving $100 but some members saving up to $4000. Customers were able to unlock their savings earlier this year.

For the first time, Everyday Rewards members can redeem their rewards through MyDeal, which is an online marketplace. People could also use the rewards to redeem at Woolworths, BIG W, BWS, Everyday Market and participating EG Ampol locations.

All people need to do to opt in to Bank for Christmas is log on to Everyday Rewards app or online, and the select Bank for Christmas as a choice. This can be used from November 13 until December 31, before points start banking up again on January 1.

“We know Christmas can be an expensive time of year for shoppers and Bank for Christmas is a great way for Everyday Rewards members to collect points on their everyday shops, banking the dollars for when they’re needed most,” Glenn Baker, Everyday Rewards General Manager, said.

“Many members have told us that unlocking their Bank for Christmas fund is like unwrapping an early Christmas present. This year we have unlocked the savings earlier than ever, so that shoppers can take advantage of Black Friday sales and other specials Woolworths, BWS, MyDeal and BIG W will be offering in the lead-up to Christmas.”
