I’m flying to London via Tokyo but I fly into Narita and out of Haneda seven hours later. What is the most efficient way to transfer between the two?
Yikes, you’re in for quite a journey. Although both airports serve the gargantuan metropolis, they are more than 60km apart (in fact, Narita is in the neighbouring Chiba Prefecture, well outside central Tokyo). While a taxi can get you door-to-door in 60 to 80 minutes (depending on traffic, of course), this option can be eye-wateringly expensive. Expect private taxi transfers arranged through the airport to set you back over $200 and regular taxis up to $400.
Your best bet is to book the Limousine Bus, a service which takes one hour and 40 minutes between the airports (you can select your arrival and departure terminal) at a cost of 3600 yen (about $37) for a one-way trip.
Trains, of course, are the cheapest option (expect to pay $16 to $18) but not only will this take longer, at around the two-hour mark – not counting any “lost and wandering” time – you’ll also have to lug your luggage around in those crazy crowds.
Airlines recommend a four-hour transfer time between the two, so no need to panic. With a bit of planning, you’ll be able to catch your connecting flights with plenty of time and hopefully, a delicious airport meal to spare.
