Two ingredient hack to clean kettle without scrubbing

A Perth woman has revealed her easy, two ingredient hack to get rid of limescale on a kettle without having to scrub the appliance.

How often should you change your bed sheets?

A self-proclaimed home hacks queen has revealed an easy way to clean limescale off your kettle that doesn’t involve scrubbing.

Carolina McCauley, from Perth, Western Australia, took to Instagram this week to share her incredible hack.

The hack involved a cup of vinegar and a cup of water, combined inside of the kettle, while it soaked for 30 minutes.

After it’s soaked, Ms McCauley boiled the kettle before pouring the water out and then rinsing the kettle.

People were in love with the hack, thanking Ms McCauley for sharing.

“Wonderful tips. Thanks,” one social media user commented.

Another said “Gotta do this now!!!!!”

It comes after another hack went viral in July involving lemons.

The Facebook user took to the Markdown Addicts Australia Facebook page to reveal they had been growing lemon and orange trees in their backyard for 20 years.

“Most are given away to friends, family and customers at work, but I also use lemons to clean my kettle when it gets black inside,” the social media user said.

The cleaning hack called for one or two lemons cut into wedges and put in the kettle which is then filled up with water and boiled twice.

If your kettle is not cleaned frequently enough, two different things can happen, depending on whether the water in your area is hard or soft.

“Hardness in drinking water is mainly the result of the presence of large amounts of two minerals – calcium and magnesium. Hard water requires more soap than soft water to obtain a lather,” the original poster said.

The user added it can cause scale to form on hot water pipes and fittings.

Soft water is also a concern and is when water contains small amounts of calcium and magnesium, which can lead to greater corrosion of pipes.

The build-up can make the inside of your kettle turn black.
