Australian woman stumped by strange finds in new home

After moving into a new home, one woman found a series of bizarre home organisation “systems” that will leave you scratching your head.

A woman has been left stumped by the strange objects the previous owners of her home left around the house.

The woman took to Facebook to share a variety of images from her new property that included narrow cupboards in the laundry and two house-shape objects attached to the side of the fridge.

“I just moved into a new house,” the woman wrote in Cleaning & Organising Inspiration Australia.

“The previous owners were very organised. (Far more so than me!)

“They had places and systems and nooks for everything. We can’t work out what some of the things they installed are for.”

She asked the group for advice on four of the items and said she had plenty more if the members were keen for some further challenges.

The first image was of two white house-shaped objects attached to the side of the fridge space.

Several people guessed it was to hold items such as dog leads or umbrellas, but one woman shared a photo of her own version of it, solving the mystery.

Inside, two little birds sat with one holding a key behind its feet – exactly like the original poster’s but missing the little figurines.

“I think you may have [found] their use,” one social media user commented on the thread.

The item, a dedicated key holder, can still be purchased today at various retailer as either a single or double hutch.

The next image showed a green object fastened to the bottom of the kitchen cupboards with a little blade.

Immediately all comments pointed towards it being a jar lid opener.

One person said it was “ahead of its time” as these days all kinds of jar openers are on the market.

However, many jar openers are now hand held.

The third problem that needed solving was a small nook with a power point in the kitchen.

Many claimed it could be used for an internet modem or even a coffee station.

But, one was quick to point out the original use would have been dated back to the ’60s or ’70s when people didn’t have these things.

Another echoed this consideration.

“Back in the day, a landline [on the] bottom shelf, phone books go on the top shelf,” the Facebook user commented.

For the last object, she shared a photo of a thin cupboard in the laundry that was only 13cm deep.

Many thought it may have been used to hold a fold-out ironing board.

Others suggested it could be used to hold cleaning products.

“Old school ironing board station,” one person commented.

“We have one and I turned it into a first aid/medicine cabinet with a padlock to stop the kids getting into it accidentally.”

While two of the items had their uses found, the remaining pair still had question marks over their intended use.
