Tables and chairs replaced with beds as Ikea puts new spin on comfort eating
IT’S one of life’s simple pleasures but apparently, not enough of us do it. Ikea has opened a cafe that takes ‘comfort eating’ to a whole new level.
IF someone told you eating breakfast in bed in public was now socially acceptable, would you believe them?
On May 18, furniture giant Ikea pulled back the sheets on its Breakfast in Bed Café — an eatery where tables and chairs were replaced with beds and “comfort eating” took on a whole new meaning.
The Swedish retailer was inspired to change how we start our days after a survey of 2000 Britons revealed 50 per cent had never enjoyed the pleasure of eating breakfast in bed.
Sadly, this dreamy place — a concept cafe — was only open until May 20 in London.
Patrons were able to tuck into the usual breakfast staples, Swedish treats as well as choosing from a menu of Ikea’s most comfortable beds and pillows.
Created as a celebration of the sheer joy of having breakfast in bed, we can only hope Ikea stores in Australia follow suit.
