HOME is where the heart is but some people’s hearts must just be plain disgusting — or on acid.

These are a few of our favourite interior designs, created with so much love it is almost overwhelming. Taste is personal, but it can often be improved.

We’re a fan of wallpaper as much as the next 1970s-inspired interior designer but Florence Broadhurst is turning in her grave at the sight of this travesty. Design tip: Never, ever match your bedspread to your walls. Actually, why do you still have a bedspread?

Framed pictures can add character to a room. They can highlight times past and make them into a worthwhile reminder for times to come. Five hundred framed photos of flower sketches doesn’t cut it. It makes you look dead inside.

Customised book shelves can complete a room, and make it click together. Attaching customised book shelves to your customised lounge and your customised desk is probably going a little too far. Oh, and Austin Powers called, he wants his rug back.

Macramé may be hipster cool, but patterns on mirrors are definitely not. Or grandfather clocks. And while you’re at it, vases don’t go on the floor.

Wood can create a beautiful, natural feature in a room or it can destroy it. This is the latter. Keep the features simple and focused, save a few trees.
