With the biggest event in home cinema this year taking place on Thursday, it’s time to make sure your place is ready. Zack Snyder’s Justice League is released worldwide at the same time — 6pm AEDT, March 18, and here in Australia will be beamed straight into homes via BINGE and Foxtel.

The alfresco has long been lauded as one of the most important areas of a home. There wouldn’t be a new home built in the modern era that doesn’t feature an alfresco attached to the kitchen, dining or living area.

Fire pits and outdoor kitchens have boomed as a result.

The backyard is now a brag worthy show piece, with outdoor theatres the next big thing. Mega-sized televisions and powerful sound systems, once confined to the living room, have made the move outside, with the demand for home-based entertainment on the rise.

Harvey Norman Preston proprietor, Sean Dixon, says some 35 per cent of his customers are looking for audio visual products that can be used in an outdoor setting.

“It really has become the new outdoor kitchen. People are coming in wanting to replicate their indoors, outside,” he says.

“That is the new environment that we are working with.”

POOL SIDE THEATRE TAKES CENTRE STAGE

Taking the television outdoors was always on the “wish list” but the sun’s glare made it difficult to enjoy the picture in the middle of the day or late afternoon.

Technology has come to the rescue with the launch of Samsung’s The Terrace QLED 4K TV and soundbar. Available in 55, 65 and 75-inch models, The Terrace is built for outdoor entertainment.

“With a crystal clear display and advanced anti-glare technology, The Terrace is ideal to enjoy a family movie night on a warm summer’s evening,” says Samsung’s Hass Mahdi.

“People are not content with a couple of speakers that they can take outside,” Mr Dixon added.

“What people have saved from not travelling this last year they are using to set up their outdoor home theatre, so they can feel like they are always on holidays.”

Durable indoor/outdoor sound systems like the Sonos Move are becoming increasingly popular. Battery powered, waterproof and drop-resistant, you can control it with your voice, and stream via Bluetooth when WiFi isn’t available.

“As we spend more time home, we’ve invested in better quality pieces that will last.”

LIGHT UP YOUR HOME ENTERTAINMENT

Forget watching a movie under the stars – WiFi enabled fairy lights is how the cool kids Netflix and chill.
