AARON Whiteside is 31, single and lives in a house decorated in 1930s style. He is obsessed with the era and has gone as far as cooking with a coal stove — plus it’s cheaper.

The history buff has spent more than 90,000 pounds renovating his home as a shrine to the past.

His obsession with the ‘30s era started as a five-year-old boy.

“I used to be told stories about the 1930s and we used to listen to the music, so I think that’s what’s inspired my interest,” Whiteside said.

The window-repair worker spends his time scouring vintage stores and eBay for objects to fill his semi-detached bachelor pad in Lancashire, UK.

“I’ve tried to make sure all the items in the house are originals, rather than being replicas. I even heat my water from the coal fire — which works out much cheaper than the modern way of heating water,” he said.

“Some things have been really expensive, like the wallpaper I got on eBay.”

Whiteside’s pride of joy is his HMV state of the art gramophone from 1937.

“It came from an old house down south where bits and pieces were being sold

off, and a friend of a friend told me about it. It’s fantastic,” he said.

The young traditionalist enjoys the interest in his alternative lifestyle.

“People are really interested in the house — my friends always ask if they

can take pictures, they think it’s really different.”
