Hilarious CBF Halloween decoration is confusing the neighbourhood

They're meant to look like 'hanging bats' - but people were quick to point out what they actually look like.

Spooky Halloween decorations are creeping out the neighbourhood

Halloween is coming up, so neighbourhoods have been well and truly decked out with spooky decorations by now.

But when Jess*, from Melbourne, stepped out of her house one morning this week to head to work, she was taken aback by her neighbour's recently installed decorations.

The decorations, intended to resemble hanging bats, left Jess scratching her head - convinced they looked more like something macabre, straight from a crime scene.

Kidspot chatted to Jess to find out more about her thoughts on the creepy display.

"Who on earth would think they actually look like bats?!"

"I was just walking out of my gate when I saw these black things hanging from the trees. I was so shocked and honestly a bit concerned," Jess said. "They were just kind of swaying in the breeze. It was super eerie."

She continued, "I think they're meant to be hanging fruit bats or hanging zombie bats or something, but I think they kind of missed the mark. Like, who on earth would think they actually look like bats?!

"Let's just call it for what it is, they look like hanging bodies."

She also joked that they should "come with a trigger warning" since she lives in a family-friendly neighbourhood.

Overall, Jess said that the decorations are "deranged and just so, so grim" and has also noticed other passersby looking on in confusion.

"It's a no from me. Too creepy!"

As it turns out, this peculiar Halloween decoration trend isn't a one-off incident but rather a growing trend among people who are looking for an easy Halloween decoration in a pinch.

Apparently, all you need is some empty bottles, garbage bags and duct tape.

Posting to Kmart Hacks and Decor Facebook Group a woman named Alicia shared a photo of her version of the hack, writing, "Cheap Halloween decor. The tape is $1 from Kmart 🦇," referencing the yellow tape that says, 'Danger, enter if you dare' that's wrapped around the bottles.

The comments on the post were a mix of confusion but also enthusiasm about the budget-friendly approach to Halloween.

One member exclaimed, "Legit thought this was a body."

"It's a no from me. Too creepy!" claimed another.

"OMG, that's DARK!" said someone else.

"I did this but our neighbours complained"

"This is great. Running to Kmart!" one said, while someone else shared, "I currently have a lot of dirt in my yard. I'm 100% making a few and sticking them under some dirt."

"This is an ingenious idea!" said someone else.

Another shared, "You can do this with pool noodles inside if you don't have bottles," alongside a photo of her own rendition.

Then this woman said, "I did this but our neighbours complained as it looked too realistic."
