A popular daily vitamin has been pulled from shelves amid fears the pills contain metal fragments.

On Thursday, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) issued an urgent recall for a batch of BioCeuticals Ultra Potent-C Chewable tablets.

The recall comes as a consumer reported finding a small fragment of metal, “about the thickness of a human hair” embedded in one of the tablets.

Small shards of metal can cause injuries to user’s mouths and digestive tracts.

The TGA said internal investigations determined the fragment likely came from the manufacturing process, however in an attempt to minimise risks to others, batch number 220380 has been recalled.

On the bottle, batch numbers are located under the barcode on the label, and anyone with a matching number has been advised to immediately stop using the product.

“You can return it to the place of purchase for a refund,” the TGA said.

“No other batches or other Bioceuticals products are being recalled at this time.”
