Lulu & Lu dummy chain urgently recalled over suffocation, choking risk

The product was found by Product Safety Australia to not have complied with the mandatory standard for baby dummies and dummy chains.

A dummy chain has been urgently recalled from shelves, following warnings the product could pose a suffocation risk and choking hazard for babies.

The product, which features a linen chain, with some models featuring a toy teddy bear, from Adelaide-based online store Lulu & Lo was found by Product Safety Australia (PSA) to not have complied with the mandatory standard for baby dummies and dummy chains.

The body warned this posed a “risk of choking, suffocation or death to young children,” and urged people to stop using the affected chains immediately. People could also destroy the chain by cutting off the clip and disposing it.

Under mandatory safety standards set by the Consumer Goods Sagety Standard 2017, dummy chains can only be a maximum 220mm in length, as to not become a strangulation hazard.

The product must also not feature any breakable decals, labels, or fasteners as they could pose a choking hazard.

The chain should also be able to withstand impact resistance and tensile strength tests, and not break, tear, or separate.

Customers can obtain a refund by contacting Lulu & Lo with a photo of the destroyed chain.

The product recall notice says the chain was on sale between April 1, 2023 to April 20, 2024, and people can email, or call the online store for more information.
