Culture Kings founder travels for bizarre medical treatment

He and his wife co-founded a fashion juggernaut – now Simon Beard has shelled out $100k for an “oil change”.

The co-founder of an Australian streetwear giant has detailed the bizarre health procedure he has undergone in Mexico – which includes having his blood drained four times.

Simon Beard, who started Culture Kings with wife Tah-nee, has provided social media followers with updates on the “oil change” he paid $100,000 for.

Founded on the Gold Coast in 2008, the Beards built Culture Kings into a $300 million company known for celebrity appearances at its stores across Australia.

They were worth an estimated $626m together in 2021, according to the Australian Financial Review, after selling to US private equity and during a Covid-era e-commerce stock boom.

Mr Beard, 40, appears to be investing in his health and posted an Instagram story on Friday showing him hooked up to a blood transfusion machine by the neck.

“6 hours of this,” he wrote.

“Scariest part is hooking that s*** up in the neck.”

The father shared videos from his bed at the Lumati clinic in Tijuana, located a stone’s throw from the border with California.

The client’s website describes a variety of services it offers – including one that claims to remove “unwanted elements” from the bloodstream.

The treatment is not available in Australia and has not been approved by the Australia Therapeutic Goods Administration.

Mr Beard told his Instagram followers that the treatment he was receiving “only came out last year” and was not yet approved in the US.

“So all your blood goes in and out of your body 4 times,” he wrote.

“2 days – 6 hours each day and you have to lie dead still.

“This just price of being early I’m sure be way cheaper and we all get it in a few years,” the millionaire wrote.

“It will just be like servicing your car.

“Health is wealth.

“I will report back how I feel and stats.”

Mr and Ms Beard left Culture Kings in 2023, two years after selling it to Boston-based Summit Partners for $307m plus 23.3 million shares. It is now run by a.k.a. Brands.

The couple’s social media pages show them enjoying overseas holidays by the beach or skiing, attending the Super Bowl and having a Lamborghini yacht built in recent years.
