A BRISBANE mum who lost a staggering 58kg says she will not be happy until she loses 20kg more, but she needs the public’s help to achieve her goal.
Brittany Jade Ofsoski was stuck in a vicious cycle of food addiction and depression for two years.
The self-described “obese Barbie” ate takeaway every night.
But Ms Ofsoski wouldn’t just eat one meal, she’d have a KFC Family Feast to herself or three McDonald’s burgers.
“I lived on fat and dairy,” she said.
“I just ballooned and I was ginormous.”
In March of this year the mother-of-one decided to do something about her weight problem once and for all.
Instead of returning to the weight loss drug she’d been addicted to prior to her significant gain, Ms Ofsoski got gastric surgery.
She lost 85 per cent of her stomach in the process.
Since then the Griffin resident has lost 58kg.
Ms Ofsoski told The Courier-Mail she did not regret the surgery, but had been surprised by the judgment from those around her.
“People immediately think it’s the easy way out,” she said.
“I want to assure people it’s not.
“I’ll never eat a normal size meal again.”
An average meal now consists of half a piece of salmon accompanied by rice and green vegetables.
Ms Ofsoski — who currently weighs 94.5kg — said her goal weight was 75kg.
“I’ve probably got another 10kg to lose in fat but my doctors have said I hold about another 10kg of extra weight in skin,” she said.
The 23-year-old has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for the $26,000 surgery to remove her excess skin.
“I am just grateful for whatever is it that I can in fact raise,” she wrote on the fundraising page.
“Every dollar counts.”
Ms Ofsoski said the surgery had changed her life.
“I’m a completely different person,” she said.
“I just want people out there, other females especially, to know it’s OK and you can do it.”
Despite Christmas being just a few days away, Ms Ofsoski said she wasn’t worried about being tempted by oversized turkeys or other goodies.
“I’ll be having oysters,” she said.
“I’m a seafood head.”
