The skills of some of Adelaide's top pastry chefs will be on display in a suburban supermarket, in a move dubbed a world-first.
A specially constructed patisserie kitchen with counter-to-ceiling glass to allow shoppers to watch the behind-the-scenes beating, stirring, baking and cake decorating has been unveiled at Foodland Pasadena.
Led by group executive chef Virginia Gordon and head patissier Zoey Elson, the new kitchen employs six specialist pastry chefs and will supply cakes, pastries and bespoke Belgian chocolates in store and to the sister store at Frewville.
Supermarket director Spero Chapley said the aim was to bring added “energy and theatre” to the shopping experience, adding the SA supermarket was the first in the world to have an in-store patisserie.
“We want our stores to be places that people looking forward to visiting,” he said.
