The most popular items at one of Australia’s biggest supermarkets have been revealed — as Woolworths Everyday Rewards members picked up fresh fruit and veggies more than any other product.
Australians may be known for our love of meat pies and beers, but the supermarket’s most popular items — bananas, avocados and strawberries — show that we’ve really been looking after ourselves this year.
“Strawberries, avocados and bananas are a supermarket staple for so many shoppers, particularly for families embracing fresh fruit and vegetables for meals and snacks,” a Woolworths spokesperson told news.com.au.
“It’s therefore no surprise they were the top purchased items for Everyday Rewards members this year.”
These purchases, among others, led 45,000 members to collect 100,000 points. This is equivalent to $500.
“Our Everyday Rewards program helps members save hundreds of dollars every year simply by scanning their card and boosting their personalised offers when they shop at Woolworths, BIG W and our partner stores,” a spokesperson from Everyday Rewards said.
“To celebrate the value members have unlocked this year, we have sent a ‘Rewards Replay’ to over 6 million members. This personalised video shows how many points each member has collected, the money they have saved and their top three products purchased.”
Close to 800,000 members stocked up their points for Christmas. They collected a total of $85 million.
Last year, Woolworths reversed a change to its Everyday Rewards Extra program that irked a lot of shoppers.
The supermarket chain announced in May 2023 that the 10 per cent discount at Woolworths and Big W would no longer be accessible for online shopping.
The changes came in on July 1, with one angry shopper revealing: “Losing my 10 per cent off online means I’ll cancel my subscription as I do 95 per cent of my shopping online as I find it too hard to get to the shops.”
But, after listening to customer feedback, the supermarket decided to reverse its decision.
“After carefully listening to customer feedback, we’ve heard that our Everyday Extra subscribers want the option to redeem their monthly discount in store, or online,” the spokesperson told news.com.au.
“As a result from November 1, we will be reinstating the option for our Everyday Extra subscribers to redeem their 10 per cent monthly discount online, when shopping at Woolworths and BIG W.
“We thank our customers for their feedback and hope this change will make it easier for our Everyday Extra subscribers to unlock even more value this Christmas and for the year ahead. Everyday Extra subscribers can also redeem their discount on Everyday Rewards ‘Member Price’ products, to generate even more savings at the checkout.”
Shoppers were over the moon at the revelation that the discount would be redeemable online once again.
