South Australian distillers are in high spirits after the launch of the SA Distillery Trail.

Stretching from the Sunny Hill Distillery at Arthurton, on Yorke Peninsula, to the Fleurieu Distillery at Goolwa, the trail includes 18 spirit producers, many within 30 minutes of the city.

The development of the trail by the South Australian Spirit Producers Association (SASPA), is backed with a $15,000 grant from the State Government.

Primary Industries and Regional Development Minister David Basham said South Australia’s spirit producers had been punching above their weight, with award wins on the global and national stages.

“Despite only making up 12 per cent of the nation’s spirit industry, our producers have forged a reputation for not only premium products, but unique experiences at distilleries,” Mr Basham said.

“With many boutique businesses setting up outside metropolitan Adelaide, the Distillery Trail gives visitors another reason to explore the great things regional South Australia has to offer.”

SASPA president George Georgiadis said the trail showcased a growing number of award-winning distilleries around the state.

“South Australian gin and whisky, in particular, are up there with the best in the world,” Mr Georgiadis said.

“We know we have incredible food and wine in the state, and now we’re proud to add spirits to the food and beverage landscape.

“To be successful in South Australia, you need to create products that are of the highest quality.”

In addition to the development of the trail, State Government funding has been provided to support a two-day specialist forum at Hay Valley, just outside Nairne, next year.
