A popular Australian fast food chain has confirmed a major detail has returned after it was removed during Covid.
Guzman y Gomez abolished self-serve salsa stations during the pandemic due to government requirements in a bid to limit the spread of the virus.
Customers could still request the extras directly with staff, but the chain found it wasn’t hitting the mark and people missed serving themselves. Now, more than five years after the feature was first removed, the chain has brought it back – and fans are over the moon.
“GYG’s dine in Salas Stations were temporarily removed during Covid due to government requirements but the GYG salsa station has always been available at all restaurants when you ask at the point of sale, drive thru, on the app and on delivery,” a spokesperson told news.com.au.
“Five years can never extinguish the Salsa Station. Welcome back,” one social media user commented.
Another wrote: “Never take this away from me again.”
“A little? It’s been 84 years,” another commiserated.
One social media user commented: “This has made my day!”
“It’s about time,” one said.
A fan added: “Finally! Please bottle the jalapeño sauce!!!! So I can have one at home.”
“Fantabulous news,” another celebrated.
One GYG fan declared the chain’s decision to remove the salsa station was the “worst thing” about Covid, while another believed there should be little pots of red onion for everyone to celebrate the news.
The salsa station includes roasted jalapeño, which is a mild salsa, smokey chipotle, which is a medium salsa, and habanero sauce.
There are also pickled jalapeños, coriander and diced Spanish onion.
Steven Marks, the CEO of GYG, said the reaction has been “wild”.
The brand revealed that the last of the locations were receiving their salsa stations last week, and fans are being encouraged to load up.
