A new Macca’s burger that comes complete with a pot of melted cheese for dipping has caused a stir for all the wrong reasons.
The “Cheese Dunk” is currently only available in the Philippines, but it has captured global attention after a stomach-churning video of the burger being dunked into a thick, somewhat lumpy, orange sauce went viral.
Posted on the official Filipino Macca’s Facebook page, the video shows a regular Cheeseburger being plunged into a cheesy side-dip – but it has done the opposite of leaving viewers salivating.
“This is so repulsive, I can’t look,” remarked one.
“Why is the cheese lumpy? So foul,” commented another.
As another said: “The fake McDonald’s cheese in liquid form? No thanks.”
It’s not just the item’s appearance that has stomachs churning, with locals reporting the cheese also tastes “horrible”.
“It tastes like a melted crayon,” claimed one.
“Oh my God. McDonald’s cheese dunk is not giving …” said another, alongside a vomiting emoji.
“I just ordered this and immediately regretted it,” shared someone else.
Residents from other nations have weighed in on the Cheese Dunk, including Australians, Americans and Canadians, stating it was one limited-edition menu item Macca’s didn’t need to roll out globally.
“You can totally keep this, we’re OK with it,” one Aussie wrote.
“That looks disgusting. I’m American and even we don’t want this,” said another.
As one raged: “Stop advertising worldwide for items that are country selective it’s not that hard.”
McDonald’s Philippines’ Chief Marketing Officer, Ada Lazaro, however said that the divisive menu item is one that caters to those with indulgent food tastes.
“We know that when it comes to cheese, there’s no such thing as too much,” Ms Lazaro told local outlets.
“The Cheese Dunk is our answer to everyone who’s ever wished they could double down on that cheesy goodness.”
Those who have purchased the item have also raised another issue with the product, stating the dip’s container isn’t big enough for the burger to fit inside.
“We can’t ‘dunk’ the burgers because the cheese containers are too small,” one noted on X.
“It doesn’t fit,” raged another on TikTok.
There’s also a second Chilli Con dip available with the dunk burger, which retails for 159 Philippine Pesos, which converts to around $4.49 in Australian Dollars.
