Aussie shoppers have been left stunned after discovering the retail giant offers a “UK-style” meal deal in select stores across the country.

The $10 Lunch Meal Deal launched last year and is now available at around 160 Coles supermarkets with an “expansive convenience and food to go range” in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.

The lunchtime offer enables customers to choose from one main, one snack and one drink and has been compared to the cultural British phenomenon offered by a range of retailers across the country.

A Sydney-based shopper recently shared details of the “great value” offer on TikTok, leaving many were impressed the iconic “meal deal” was finally available in Australia.

“One of my favourite healthy lunches to get is this ten dollar meal,” the man, named Jax, shared in a video posted on the social media platform.

He then proceeds to pan his camera across the fridge section at the Wynyard store, showing a selection of Coles Finest and Coles Kitchen sandwiches, wraps, soup and salad bowls, as well as sushi from Sushi Pro, Yumami and Sushi Master, and Yumami bao buns.

“Looks like it’s quite popular, but it’s good, I like to get a salad,” he continued.

He also opted for a Chobani yoghurt pouch from the selection of snacks available, which also includes Coles Kitchen cheese and biscuits, nuts and chilled dessert, YouFoodz bites and Yog’N Oats, as well as a bottle of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar from the range of drinks.

“A lot of the stuff was taken as it’s ten to 1, but you can always grab a tin of tuna or some chicken if you need some extra protein,” he said.

“But for 10 bucks, it’s good value, go check it out.”

At the checkout, you could see Jax saved $2.65 buying the items in the combo deal.

Since it was shared on Thursday, the video has clocked up 42,000 views, and earned a number of comments from Aussies who admitted they had no idea Coles offered the lunch-time deal.

“UK meal deals will never be beaten £3.50 ($7ish) for all this, [but] not a bad effort by Coles,” one commented.

“Saw this at Tesco [supermarket] in the UK last year, took Coles or Woolworths long enough to copy haha… great value for a tenner tho,” another agreed.

As another said: “I wish all Coles had this.”

“When did Coles turn into Tesco?? Not complaining tho!” mused someone else.

“We need more meal deal situations in this country like the UK,” declared one more.

In response, Coles told news.com.au the “$10 lunch meal deal is an ongoing offer for customers at selected stores,” adding it would be “looking to expand to more stores in the near future”.

The little-known promotion has been discussed on social media earlier this year, with one Aussie sharing a photo of the supermarket’s ‘meal deal’ signage on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Since when is Coles doing meal deals?” she asked.

Another shared a similar snap, this time of an empty fridge under the same signage in a Melbourne store, on Reddit.

“If you’re in Melbourne, the Coles in Melb Central has a meal deal for $10,” the poster wrote.

“You pick one main (either a salad or sandwich), one snack (example: fruit, vegetable sticks and cheesecake slice) and one small drink.

“Decent deal if you’re on the go. Which is also why the shelves are quite empty at times.”

The post was quickly flooded with shoppers applauding the offer.

“Ohhh, UK style meal deal!” one said, as another agreed: “I’m sold!”

“I have never seen this before and I go to Coles a lot. Is it a new thing?” someone else asked.

“Finally! This is great news,” declared another.
