‘Jeans and a white tee’: Phoebe Burgess flaunts $27,000 outfit

Phoebe Burgess has promoted the importance of buying sustainable fashion while showing off an extremely expensive outfit on Instagram on Sunday.
The former NRL WAG flaunted the chic ensemble in a series of photos, including an $829 Margo Jacket from Rebecca Valance.
The 36-year-old paired the boxy jacket with light blue distressed balloon jeans and trendy black sunglasses from YSL, which cost $750.
Burgess accessorised her outfit with two Cartier Love Bracelets, each valued at $12,000 and $12,900, seriously bumping up the overall price tag of the look.
She completed her outfit with a leather Kinnon bag, which cost $595, and white slingback pumps.
Burgess explained in the caption that her “evolving sense of self” has always been revealed through her “style” at various points in her life.
“For me, style does sit alongside values,” she wrote.
“So what’s chic to me now? Timeless. Elegant. Sustainable. Function. Lasting.”
The mum-of-two added that she now wanted pieces that were “crafted to stay with you.”
Burgess’ fans commented on the photos, praising the influencer for her “beautiful” look.
“Classy as always!” one person wrote.
“Gorgeous,” another said.
“Love it all … just beautiful,” a third wrote.
However, elsewhere online, critics pointed out that it was a hefty price to pay for such a “simple look.”
“A lot of money spent,” one person stated.
“Jeans, white T-shirt and black blazer – groundbreaking!” quipped another.
“How is an outfit this expensive ‘sustainable’ for someone of moderate means?” asked someone else.
“Ridiculous waste of money,” a different commenter claimed.
It comes after Burgess made a rare public appearance at Derby Day at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne earlier this month.
She turned up to the spring-racing event in the Bridal Annette Rebecca Valance gown, which retails for $2155 and had puffed sleeves, a leg slit and a tie-up bow at the front.
She topped off the look with a $715 Ruslan Baginskiy hat and a $6700 Dior cream saddle bag with gold detailing.
“Heading into the most spectacular Birdcage marquee,” she said on her Instagram stories.
“Up up up to level three,” she added.
Burgess was previously married to NRL star Sam Burgess for four years.
They wed in 2015, separated in late 2018, rekindled their relationship in early 2019, and ultimately split for good in October of that year.
Their divorce was finalised in April 2020 and was followed by a slew of high-profile allegations of drug and alcohol abuse against Sam, and a public admission of infidelity.
Phoebe left Sydney at the beginning of 2020 and moved to her parents’ sprawling property in the Southern Highlands
She said that this decision had been one of the best for her two children, Billy and Poppy, as it helps preserve their childhood innocence and freedom.
Meanwhile, Sam, a former player for the South Sydney Rabbitohs, got engaged to hairdresser Lucy Graham in June 2023, and the couple welcomed a baby daughter named Robbie in September 2023.
The pair wed in October this year at a lavish estate in Italy.
