Want to accidentally dine in the company of a low-fi Adelaide Hills winemaker? It’s likely to happen here.
This intimate, small town hideaway is a haven for hardworking vignerons with a hankering for fresh, organic dishes and natural wines.
The restaurant exudes warmth and community spirit. Locals and newcomers perch around a communal table to dig into ingredients plucked from the restaurant’s kitchen gardens that drive a regularly changing menu.
Intimate booths, window seating and outdoor tables allow for relative privacy should the need arise.
Chefs Tom Campbell and Ethan Eadie run the kitchen and the entire team shares their honest, organic ethos.
Simple menu descriptions belie the wholesome, flavour-packed creations that arrive on beautifully designed plates.
Kick things off with house-made bread, butter, pickles, salumi and stracciatella (best scooped with that crunchy bread).
Vegetables sing in dishes like ‘asparagus | cod roe’ and ‘silky potato purée | crispy chips’ – a punchy textural adventure showcasing kennebec potatoes.
Seafood is also king. The grill gets a workout for the likes of wild caught, dry-aged kingfish.
For a full spread (including dessert), the ‘don’t think about it’ option ($75 a person) ticks all the boxes.
The recent addition of a natural-wine bottle shop (with takeaway and drink-in price tags) solidifies Summertown Aristologist’s deserving place on the South Australian culinary map.
