The Lane is another of the Adelaide Hills cellar door restaurant treasures that offers a mesmerising view as a bonus — here on show from the dining room through expansive glass windows — while a popular deck beckons for fresh air fans – drinks and snacks only.

As with many venues, the new normal menu is set at three, five and seven course variations under the banner of “Provenance” to point to the kitchen’s seasonal focus on ingredient sourcing from the estate or nearby farmers and growers.

Note, however, there are no options within each course in the daily menu, though the kitchen can respond to diners’ requirements if desired.

First-off is a set of house sourdough, charcuterie and smoked trout mousse – essentially in a platter style – and perfect to go with the estate wine list that also adds a decent handful of well-heeled international offerings.

The two larger menus include fish and vegetable central dishes as well as a main course such as lamb (two ways) with various additions like saltbush leaves and olive tapenade. Classic bistro sides are included.

Dessert offers a sweet option, such as set honey cream, caramelised white chocolate, granita and berries, or savoury (ie cheeses).

A modern bistro meets rustic country vibe to the cooking sits well both in the region and space and allows for a well-balanced food and wine experience.
