The hypnotic attraction of the ocean and scent of crisp air at any spot along this state’s beautiful coastline is hard to beat for wining and dining.
Set on a Port Willunga clifftop with postcard views, the Star of Greece remains one of the best options for dining by the water’s edge. Quality food and wine complete the picture, rain or shine.
The hubbub and turnover of cloth-covered tables prove its worth, as do the friendly crew, often welcoming back regulars.
They also know their menu, led by fish and seafood of course. It promotes local heroes, proudly announcing the bread is by Andy Clappis in Willunga, the whiting and squid from Kangaroo Island.
All palates are covered, with steaks, duck and tofu given equally thoughtful treatments. Vegetarian dishes feature on the menu and in the specials.
New temptations include a confit pork belly with pine nut and raisin salsa all brought together with parsnip cream and jus, and for dessert, the rum baba with blood orange pieces and curd, smoothed with silky white chocolate.
On weekends across summery months, there’s also a more casual option at the adjacent Port Willy Kiosk’s shaded outdoor tables where you can eat from a simple menu, including top-notch fish and chips.
