Lunch with a view? The high-line ridge above Lenswood is all about that, no matter what the season: misty moody in autumn and winter, sparkling in spring and summer, with plunging vineyard slopes below this multi-tiered and decked cellar door restaurant always the star. It’s all very Instagrammable.
And so too are the pretty dishes on chef Adam Bowden’s seasonally sensitive three and five course menus, starting with personal mini bread loaves and tiny baked treats like savoury madeleines topped with slices of yet-to-ripen almonds – a tick for adventurous kitchen smarts.
The three-courser then offers choices across starters, mains and desserts, while the five-course option is set on the menu.
Asparagus, Woodside goats curd, citrus and tiny salad reflects its spring season with bright garden flavours, and likewise the lamb, broad bean, peas, smoked bacon and wild garlic.
A main of spinach-and-feta-filled dumpling-like pasta with a parmesan foam that morphs to a sauce is a vegetarian delight.
Wines are from the estate and offer a classy sparkling through whites and reds by the glass and bottle.
Staff are super-friendly and on the ball, the service welcoming enough to stay for a tasting flight or that extra glass of rose on the deck. With that view, of course.
