In 2020, it’s reassuring to find that some things have remained the same.

Lunch at d’Arry’s Verandah has always been a satisfying experience: the wrap-around space with its gorgeous views across the Southern Vales, Peter Reschke’s finely crafted food, complemented by the ample range of d’Arenberg wines, and the warm but never cloying service of well-trained staff, led by restaurant manager Jo Reschke.

COVID has seen off its glitzy stablemate in the d’Arenberg Cube but the price of lunch here does include free entry and a tasting in the top bar. Meanwhile, d’Arry’s keeps on doing what it has done so well for years.

The lobster medallion with crab and prawn ravioli sitting in its divine pool of lobster bisque remains ($15 surcharge on the set menu price), as does the signature passionfruit souffle. And who could ever tire of such sublime dishes?

Other French-accented classics include a duck and foie gras parfait, beef fillet with porcini glaze and a chicken pot au feu, but those with appetites for something lighter and spicier might opt for hot smoked market fish piled on a crunchy peanut, coconut and ginger sambal or barramundi with kombu, miso and soba noodles.

Come summer, when the terrace is in use, you’ll be hard-pressed to get a table.
