Debate erupts over mum's 'controversial' reason for banning Bluey

Biscuits! Bluey fans are quite offended by the parent's reasoning. Do you agree?

Bluey's World set to hit Brisbane

There are many words that come to mind when trying to describe Bluey, the Aussie animation that has taken over the world, and "inappropriate" is certainly not one of them.

But according to one mum, it isn't the best show for one of her children to watch. In fact, she discourages her little ones from watching it because of that very reason.

Bluey is not a show for boys

An American mum recently took to social media to share how she witnessed another parent explaining why Bluey wasn't a good show for her son to watch.

"Heard a little boy talk about Bluey today. His mum promptly redirected him toward Spiderman and called Bluey a girl's show," she wrote on Facebook.

Bluey is a girl, yes. But a girl's show? Hell no! Most fans would also argue that it's not even a "kid's" show because many adults also love it.

While the woman was adamant she was making the right decision for her family, others online strongly disagreed.

"Dumbest thing I've ever heard"

"Even though the title characters are girls, the show is for everyone. My toddler also likes Spidey and his amazing friends but I don't think it's a boy show. I think shows are meant for anyone who is interested in watching them," one mum clapped back at the comment online.

"It's so messed up that this is commentary in children's shows with female leads. No one is calling Sesame Street a 'boys show' because of Big Bird and Elmo?" another parent agreed.

Meanwhile, others went straight for the mum criticising her views.

"That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard," one insisted, while another added: "I worry about his emotional maturity in the future if the parents are that gender conforming."

People are banning Bluey for being "too rude"

It's not the first time Aussies have come across parents banning the award-winning Aussie animation.

Back in October 2023, a woman took to a private Facebook group to share that her friend had banned her kids from watching Bluey because she was apparently "too rude".

"A friend of mine told me her kids aren’t allowed to watch Bluey because of some rude jokes they learned that the kids said were from the show," the woman wrote.

The poster went on to admit that she hadn't watched all the episodes or seen the jokes her friend referenced, so she asked the group to confirm whether or not they were, in fact, from the show - particular a joke around toilet humour.

Yes it was true. But no, it's not "rude" and fans were quick to defend the show over it.

"Bluey is one of the most wholesome shows out there, what is she talking about?" one user remarked.

"She sounds like she's fun at parties," another stated.
