Classic Aussie dessert is pulled from shelves for shocking reason

"It's absolutely un-Australian!"

Let’s be real, it doesn’t get much better than a true Aussie dessert - we make some of the best there is.

From Tim Tams to lamingtons and Anzac biscuits, we truly have all the bases covered. But, the quintessential Aussie dessert (and the most controversial) is obviously a pavlova.

When I say controversial, you might think I’m talking about the debate of whether it originated in Australia or New Zealand - and I’ll leave the answer to that up to you. But, a new controversy has arisen thanks to one pav lover on Reddit, and everyone is weighing in.

“It is a seasonal product”

An Australian Reddit user has taken to the platform after a divisive string of communication with The Cheesecake Shop over their pavlova.

The post included a response from The Cheesecake Shop, saying that the pavlova is a seasonal product. And, all I can say is, what???

“Unfortunately, we do not make the pavlova anymore throughout the year. It is a seasonal product,” the email said.

“Please try ordering with the second nearest store from your location. Apologies for the inconvenience.”

“Absolutely un-Australian!”

Unsurprisingly, the user was confused at this statement.

“Cheesecake Shop claiming pavlova is ‘seasonal’,” the user said in the post.

“Since when is Pav a seasonal product? I checked other stores and they said the same, too.”

Listed on their website as Pavlova Dressed - including their secret recipe meringue covered with lashings of cream and dressed with fresh fruit - I can see why the poster was disappointed, labelling the act ‘Un-Australian’.

“All I want is to smash a pav on a Monday arvo and not feeling the love,” the poster said.

“Absolutely unaustralian.”

“Pav is eternal!”

Commenters on the post were just as confused about the idea.

“If Pavlova is seasonal my arse shits diamonds,” said one person.

“Are these people really trying to lose customers? Try somewhere else,” said another.

“Pav is eternal. Plenty of frozen fruit and berries or tinned things to get to whip up a cheeky pav,” a third person said.

How could this be?

Others were trying to come up with ideas as to why this might be the case.

Some put it down to the current egg shortage.

“Egg supply shortages atm, in case you don't know. Also, there can be (seasonal?) egg white quality issues affecting the pavlova,” one commenter said.

“It's because eggs aren't in season at the moment,” another agreed.

But, others put it down to the inclusion of seasonal fruit.

“It's the fruit on the Pav buddy. That's the seasonal ingredient,” one person said.

On The Cheesecake Shop website, it is noted that seasonal fruit is subject to availability, so this may be the culprit after all!
