1/14Little Legend Jack James, 7, from Fitzroy Football Club, has been partially blind since birth but doesn’t let his visual impairment get in the way of playing footy. Jack is a regular player in the Fitzroy U8 team and has been lucky enough to play on Adelaide Oval as part of the AFL’s Auskick program. Jack is known at the club for his fearless approach to the game and for being ‘only too happy to throw himself into the bottom of the pack and get the ball out for his teammates’. From super cute footy besties to youngsters who’ve overcome illness and adversity, there is plenty to celebrate in this week’s field of Little Legend finalists.
2/14SA Little Legend Logan Crowhurst, 10, loves his footy and basketball. This year he is playing up an age group in the SANFL junior competition, running out with Blackwood Football Clubs U12s. The keen young sportsman’s favourite position is in centre half back where he loves to be the leader of the backline. He has been counting down the days until the start of a new season – and the chance to play for premiership points – this weekend after joining Blackwood FC last year and taking out the Coaches Award. 6/14SA Little Legend Aniela Jaworek, 8, from the Western Little Athletics Club has been personally driven in her training to try her best. She was selected for her first competition in SA Little Athletics Championships as part of a relay team, where she gained a first prize gold medallion. Picture supplied.
7/14SA Little Legend Scarlett Todd, 11, Southern Valley finally got to attend the SAPSASA Swimming State Championship after it was cancelled twice last year. It was worth the wait with Scarlett taking home an impressive haul of gold in the 50m girls’ 11-year-old breaststroke race and silver in the freestyle relay team. Picture supplied.
8/14SA Little Legend Holly Altamura, 11. Holly is pictured here playing her first game of netball – and first game of any sport – following major leg reconstruction several years ago after the youngster was diagnosed of Ewing’s Sarcoma (bone cancer), in 2017. The brave, sports-loving youngster has worked hard, to not only walk again but to play sport. She is a true inspiration to anyone who knows her, including her classmates at Pulteney Grammar School. 9/14SA Little Legend Amelia Tunney, 11, from Semaphore Surf Life Saving Club. Representing the club in the U12s, Amelia ‘gives 110 per cent effort every race and encourages all her team and club mates to do the same’. 11/14SA Little Legend Kayleigh May, 15. The Kadina teenager plays for Paskeville Basketball and travels to Adelaide for training each Monday then back each weekend to play football for the Henley Sharks. She has represented SA School Girls Football and was selected in the ‘the team of the year’ as a 14-year-old. Despite suffering two concussions, broken fingers and a dislocated shoulder, Kayleigh can’t get enough sport and simply loves competing. Picture: supplied.

13/14SA Little Legend Izla Meers, 11. Despite having a severe form of epilepsy, developmental delays and being been told by doctors early in her life that she would ‘never walk’, Izla, part of the Semaphore Surf Club, she has overcome every challenge thrown at her and continues to fight to overcome obstacles … her fierce spirit, enthusiasm and a big beautiful smile is truly infectious.
