Celebrating our state’s little sporting legends
Spectacular sporting talent, mateship as well as 50 and 100-game milestones: All celebrated in this week’s gallery of Little Legends.
/15SA Little Legend Mitchell Bennett, 12, runs out with his U12 Glenunga Rams Football Club teammates to celebrate the lads’ 50-game milestone. Eleven of the proud young players shared in the 50-game milestone, most having started with the ‘great, really inclusive club’ as U8s. Seeing the teammates run through the banner together was described as ‘really special to watch’. Good luck with the rest of the season, Rams. Picture: Supplied
/15SA Little Legend Tiarna Anderson, 17, has just marked her 100th game with Tea Tree Gully Football Club and is described by her nominator as a ‘a standout’ in her U17.5 girls' footy team. We’re told she consistently leads her less experienced team by example, ‘displaying an impressive range of skills each time she runs out on the field. Tiarna puts in 110 per cent and is always encouraging her team members and supporting them ... her determination and positivity continues to shine, despite the score. She really is an inspiration to her team’. Picture: Supplied.
/15SA Little Legends Willow Cook and Oscar Harding, 14, from the Cowell Cats Football Club. The emerging footballers are being celebrated for ‘continuing to commit to improving their football skills and showing great sportsmanship towards their opponents’. Just the type of leaders all sport needs - well done lads. Picture: Supplied.
/15SA Little Legends Riley Graham, 12, from Para Districts, and Micheal-Joshua Lane, 12, from Playford Districts. The smiles on the young opposition players as they show off their colours ahead of the recent School Sport SA Sapsasa State Football Carnival, captures the spirit of competition. This image was taken by news photographer Tom Huntley.
/15SA Little Legend Finlay Gautier, 12, from the Adelaide Hills Hawks U13 soccer side. We have it on good authority this young sportsman is worth keeping an eye on – as many already are, including when he runs out as part of the Reps Team State Championships. Finlay debuted in the JPL Hawks with 55 (24 + 31) goals in just 9 rounds. In addition to playing for the Hawks, Finlay is playing his second season for the Strathalbyn Strikers U15s. The star young soccer player is described as being ‘a born goal-hungry striker. He is fast and skilful, always moving to create options to receive a pass and shoot away. (However,) what’s most special is also how very humble and kind he is ... just a lovely kid, striving his best to play with his buddies the game he loves most,’ his nominator says. What a wrap, Finlay. Picture: Supplied.
/15SA Little Legend Jobe Clifford, 7, from the Blyth/Snowtown Cats U9 football side. We are told Jobe is ‘the ultimate AFL/sport obsessed child (who) won’t miss a game, on or off the field.’ We hope you keep loving it, Jobe. Picture: Supplied
/15SA Little Legend Ella Petagna, 9, from Saint Marks. Playing in the U10 soccer side, Ella scored four amazing goals and almost shot another four in a recent game. We’re told Ella ‘always passes to her teammates and shows good sportsmanship every game, encouraging her teammates as well as the opposition’. Ella has scored 12 goals for her team so far this season in soccer, favorite sport. What an asset to her team – and the sport – she is. Keep enjoying it, Ella. Picture: Supplied

/15SA Little Legend Cooper Mildwaters, 7, from the BBH (Burra Booborowie Hallett) Rams Football Club’s U9 team. Cooper won ‘best on ground’ for his first ever footy game. Congratulaions, Cooper - that’s an amazing effort! Picture: Supplied
