Cancer survivor Georgia spreads the joy at Unite4Kids charity fundraising lunch

Little Georgia Everett has prevailed in the biggest fight of her life – now she’ll share her story as a major SA children’s charity event returns for the first time since Covid.

You can’t wipe the smile off Georgia Everett’s face.

The courageous nine-year-old was told last week that she was finally cancer-free after a two-and-a-half-year battle with leukaemia.

When Georgia received the results about her remission, she said she was “really, really excited and happy”.

Now, the youngster and her parents, Tim and Jen Everett, will share their story at The Advertiser Foundation’s Unite4Kids Gala Luncheon at Adelaide Oval in June.

The annual event has been revived by the Foundation after a brief hiatus during the pandemic.

The luncheon was initially inspired by Holly Mead, who was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer two months before her seventh birthday. The 15-year-old will celebrate six years in remission in June.

Back bigger than ever, the gala event raises funds for sick children.

It will be held at a larger venue at the Oval’s William Magarey Room, and tickets are already sold out, just weeks after going on sale.

The charity event has also received a boost with the signing of The Burton Foundation as platinum supporter of the luncheon. Launched in 2018, the Burton Foundation contributes to SA community projects and causes through targeted grants.

Co-founder Kay Burton said the decision to support the Unite4Kids was “easy”.

“We are passionate about giving back to the community and especially children,” said Ms Burton, who invited the Everett family to speak at the event. “The biggest factor is awareness and the more people who know about the causes the better.”

The Advertiser Foundation head Dan Demaria said he was blown away by the support from the local community.

“Together with supporters such as The Burton Foundation, this will be the biggest lunch we have had in the history of the event,” he said.

This year all funds raised at the gala will be donated to Childhood Cancer Association, Clown Doctors and The Starlight Children’s Foundation.

A range of live and silent auction items will be listed during the gala including four meet-and-greet tickets to Michael Buble in Adelaide and a 12-day European holiday featuring a nine-night Danube River cruise in Prague, Vienna, Bratislava, Regensburg, Salzburg and Budapest.
