Bluey fans are spotting cheeky references to The Simpsons

The two animations have more in common than we think. Have you spotted the Easter eggs?

Someone on Bluey's writing team really loves the simpsons

'Okily dokily' Bluey fans, you'll love what the wonderful interwebs have found for you. The longest-running animated family, The Simpsons, is so ingrained in our vernacular it's even made its way into our beloved Bluey.

Growing up in the 90s in Australia, The Simpsons was a staple in almost every household. So, seeing some much-loved Simpsons references pop up wasn't surprising.

You might want to revisit some of your fave Bluey and Simpsons episodes thanks to the detective work of Sala Creative Lima. The Simpsons superfan, who makes memorabilia inspired by the 80s and The Simpsons, found some fun Easter eggs hidden in episodes of the Aussie animation.

While some are pretty subtle, others are so obvious that they'll have you saying, "D'oh!"

First up, is from the 'Sleepover' episode. Muffin causes chaos and mayhem in her overtired state; she crashes the 'police car' and says, "I am the flamingo queen." It resembles Lisa going mad due to drinking dirty water at Duff Gardens, saying, "I am the lizard queen."

The brief moment that Bentley was stuck on the monkey bars in 'Bike' plays out and even sounds exactly like the episode of The Simpsons 'The PTA Disbands' where the little girl is stuck in the gym and calls out helplessly, "Mrs Pommelhorst? I'd like to get down now!" - let's hope she did.

Also, who could forget when Santa's Little Helper had a litter of puppies that kept eating Homer's chips? Bingo, also a caramel-coloured dog, does the same to her dad!

"Stink lines and everything"

Another Easter egg pops up in 'Fairies' where Bluey draws his dad (Bandit) with stink lines, which is a subtle nod to Moe, the bartender, which you must be a real Simpsons fanatic to remember.

"$900 dollarydoos!"

Saving the best for last, remember when The Simpsons took a trip down under in 'Bart vs. Australia'? The typical Aussie tropes were thrown around, and one that still lives on is "dollarydoos". While it might have been a cheeky swipe at us Aussies, Bluey writers clearly remembered it too, as Bluey calls dollar bucks, dollarydoos in 'The Weekend'.

A Master's in Bluey

Fans of both shows had mixed reviews on the video, with some saying "thank you, come again" to the clips; others knew that these Easter eggs were for real life.

"I knew that dim sim scene reminded me of something!!!" a 90s kid said.

Another admitted that The Simpsons reference got him into Bluey: "Honestly when I heard them say Dollaridoos in episode 2, I was hooked for life."

"Explains why so many adults like it. I mean it's going to appeal to our nostalgia while being new," another said.

"I'm actually writing my master's dissertation on Bluey, and I can confirm that Simpsons inspired Joe Brumm; he said in an interview that he wanted to create a cartoon that could bring parents and kids together like the Simpsons," one superfan wrote.

This turned out to be true; Joe Brumm, one of the creators of Bluey, shared in an interview that the adult animation series was one of his career inspirations.

“I want to make a show that people can watch as a family... something like The Simpsons did, where you could watch it as an adult or maybe an eight or nine-year-old. I wanted something you could watch as an adult and also a four-year-old, which is quite a step – and it changes the nature of the show. But I thought, ‘There must be a lovely little thing ... that you really share when a four-year-old sits down with their parent and both actively enjoy watching the show.’”

The real question is, was Bluey influenced by The Simpsons, or were the creators of The Simpsons just predicting the future like they always do?
