A legendary Adelaide flower shop has taken out the top title of South Australia’s best florist after 36 years of business.

If you are South Australian, it is likely you have come into contact with Tynte Flowers at some stage in your life.

The family-owned business has been operating in Adelaide’s northern suburbs for the past 36 years.

Their story started in 1988 with Jan Frolich who had a dream to create an “up-market” business with high-quality flowers at accessible prices and soon the whole family was on board with her husband, Rick Frolich handling the finance and administration aspect of the company and daughter, Dani Frolich coming on as a “creative visionary”.

Now with a staff of 40 people, Tynte Flowers, named after their original location on Tynte street in North Adelaide, have been pioneers in the floristry industry.

They were the first people in Australia to sell flowers in vases, the first to have a website - introduced during the dawn of digital in 1999 - and the first florist to open seven days a week.

They are also the only florist in Adelaide to deliver to a whopping 350 suburbs and have made two million sales in their lifetime.

“Practically everyone in South Australia has bought (Tynte) flowers one and a half times,” Mr Frolich said.

The company have not only been guided by their love for flowers, they are also proud to follow their motto “our flowers last longer”.

“(We) give the customer the full life cycle of the flowers, they’re only in our hands for less than 24 hours then the public receive them,” Mr Frolich said.

“As soon as the flowers arrive at our distribution centre in Hindmarsh, they are immediately placed in 10 degree refrigeration until used in arrangements …(this) guarantees cool flowers at every stage of the customers order process.”

Over the years of Tynte Flowers’ operations, the Frolich family have witnessed many Valentine’s Days and said they can go through 25,000 red roses on the annual day of love.

“I think our favourite event of the year is Mother’s Day,” Mr Frolich admitted.

“Watching young children come in with their dads and buying flowers for their mums and their grand-mums; it’s absolutely incredible seeing a little five-year-old selecting flowers from buckets and buckets of flowers.”

“Valentine’s Day is a sprint and Mother’s Day is probably more like a marathon.” Miss Frolich added.

Last week, Tynte Flowers added another accolade to their expansive list after being named South Australia’s best florist 2025 by The Advertiser’s readers.

“A really significant part of about the businesses success is that we’ve always had a family member present,” Mr Frolich said.

“We basically never say ‘no’ to anyone for anything.”
