The JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort is undoubtedly one of the best hotels in the region for families, with sushi classes and a saltwater lagoon populated by over 200 tropical fish. The spa is pretty special too and until December 12, $368 gets you a 90 minute package including a 60-minute massage, a hot stone treatment and 30 minute sauna and steam. After which you can indulge in a high tea with a glass of sparkling wine and goodies such as lavender-infused scones, cucumber and caviar with creme fraiche and sesame bark with a hint of citrus aioli.

Tranquility awaits at The Bathhouse at Ground.
Tranquility awaits at The Bathhouse at Ground.

Australia is in the midst of a bathhouse boom and this property does it better than most. There are three cedar hot tubs, two plunge pools (one of which is a cold plunge pool and the other an ambient magnesium mineral pool), hydrotherapy spas and a wood-fired sauna. In the adjacent treatment rooms, there is a range of spa treatments on offer - from soothing massages to facial packages from skilled therapists. It's a blissful retreat to de stress at your own pace for a few hours with communal bathhouse vibes. Check out the Bathe & Bliss sessions where sound healing is added to the soak.

Soak Bathhouse, Mermaid Beach

Get your Soak on.
Get your Soak on.

There are those who will tell you that this place actually kicked off the whole bathhouse renaissance in Australia - they've since expanded to four additional locations - and who are we to argue? The three mineral pools - heated to 34 degrees, 38 degrees and 12 degrees respectively - are complemented by a steam room, red cedar wood sauna. It's an immersive - see what we did there - wellness escape and we applaud the Soak Giving program that helps local businesses, schools and charities. As an add on, you can also have full body massages for the ultimate pampering session. A blissful retreat that offers real value for money.

Chuan Spa, Gold Coast

Find your bliss at Chuan Spa at The Langham Gold Coast.
Find your bliss at Chuan Spa at The Langham Gold Coast.

Ensconced in the Langham hotel, Chuan sets the standard for what a hotel spa can - and should - be. There are eight treatment rooms, two couples rooms and an indoor pool with ocean views. The spa treatments are divided into Metal. Wood, Water, Fire and Earth categories and its hardly surprising that it scooped the 2024 Best Australian Hotel Spa gong in the World Spa Awards. The massage rooms here are next level luxe, the spa experience exquisitely considered and you will be whisked away from everyday life in a heartbeat. As far as body therapies go, we'd recommend the three hour Chuan Serenity Shen - but this is just one of the luxurious massages on offer. Meanwhile the organic facials, such as Chuan Yu - using iKou organics - are 75 minutes of pure luxury.

Greenhouse The Bathhouse. Tallebudgera

Proving just how fierce the bathhouse competition is here, Greenhouse touts itself as "the Gold Coast's original bathhouse". Take a dip in the heated magnesium spas, brave the cold plunge pool, sweat out the toxins in the steam room or sauna then hit the treatments rooms for a massage or scrub. We love the fact that there's a plant-based restaurant on site so you can make a day of it.

SOL Elements, Mount Tamborine

Just as well this new bathhouse is set to open in July 2025, because we cannot wait to try it. There is a strong Japanese accent here as the onsen influence is obvious and aside from float therapy rooms, cold plunges, a Himalayan salt, infrared sauna, botanical steam room and and submerged al fresco fire pit. The handcrafted scrubs created in the onsite Earth Lab are set to be a highlight.
