David Heyneman of Quantum Performance named the state’s best physio for 2025

While his athletic abilities may not take him to the Olympics, Dave is determind to get there another way.

Five exercises to prevent back pain

For this former state volleyballer, the physios who helped him as an athlete inspired him to pursue the profession.

Now Dave Heyneman has been named South Australia’s best physiotherapist with his sights set on one day joining the Australian Olympic team.

‘I wanted to be a physio so that I could go to the Olympics because my average sporting career didn’t get there myself,” he said.

“That burning competitive passion is still there … my goal is definitely still to represent, not myself, but physio, the occupation and represent the country in that medical niche.”

But his path into the job was not linear.

Mr Heyneman first completed a human movement degree followed by a Graduate Diploma of clinical exercise physiology before graduating from a postgraduate master’s degree in physiotherapy in 2015.

“It was a serious amount of time,” he said.

“By the time was a physio, I had three degrees under my belt and a huge amount of extra experience compared to a new graduate physio.”

After initially working in private practice, Mr Heyneman started his own venture, Quantum Performance – based in the PEAQ Performance Centre in Hendon – just over a year ago.

“I do a lot of post operative based rehab for shoulders, hips, knees and ankles and that’s anywhere from sporting people all the way through to people that just want to be pain free,” he said.

“We’re trying to get people back to their own athletic performance, or their next level of performance.”

When Mr Heyneman was told he had been voted the state’s best physio for 2025 he thanked the allied health professionals and medical teams he collaborates with.

“As a team, we deliver what I think is great outcomes but it’s cool to have the award,” he said.

“I think that the reason I maybe got over the line in turns of winning … is the community of people I work with and the community of patients that I have built over the years.”
