Every year, a gaggle of experts gather at a hidden Sydney location to make decisions that shape how Aussies spend their hard-earned money.

Beauty Diary: Five new products set to take Australia by storm

The room is filled to the brim, in fact, it’s fair to say we’re packed in like sardines.

But I’m not on a busy train during commuter hours or being herded on a shuttle bus to catch a flight – I’m at a top secret location in Sydney with a very exclusive guestlist.

Every year, Sephora gives experts and influencers an advanced showing of its up-and-coming releases for the months ahead, and the sheer excitement of getting the inside scoop sends beauty-junkies into a spin.

The space is filled with stalls manned by every skincare and make-up brand imaginable, all ready to chew your ear off about their new, often unannounced, releases.

For some, it probably sounds like hell, but as a journalist with a penchant for a 7-step ‘glass skin’ routine I find it more comparable to Christmas.

But while there are hundreds of new goodies to learn about and then later test out (the fun part), there are only a few that truly stand out from the crowd.

Of course, what products become the “must tries” varies dependant on who you talk to, but it can completely change the game for a brand if an influencer declares they “love” its new release.

It is undoubtedly a powerful industry moment, making it a bash everyone wants to attend, and helping consumers decided how to spend their hard-earned money.

So without further ado here are the five new products that I was impressed by. Sorry in advance if your bank balance takes a hit after reading it.

Murad Blemish Control Clarifying Body Spray

Price: $74

While there are tonnes of products out there to help those who struggle with pimples and inflammation on their face, there’s not many designed to help ease spots everywhere else on the body. What’s particularly nifty about this is its packaging, as the spray bottle means it’s easy to apply on your own back, which considering lost of people suffer with “backne” – back acne – is a bit of a game-changer.

Even those who don’t battle with zits can find benefit in this bottle, as Murad told me it’s an ideal item to take with you to the gym, as you can spritz it on your body post-workout and it will help neutralise sweat.

Milk Jelly Tint

Price: $44

This has to be of the most visually striking blushers I’ve ever seen, which is why it has understandably blown up on TikTok after being released in overseas before hitting Australia. There are so many serious and hardworking beauty products on the market but this one is so fun. I love how unique the texture is and while I’ve only used it a few times, the colour payoff is great too. I just know this one is going to be a massive hit Down Under.

Makeup by Mario MoistureGlow Plumping Lip Serum

Price: $44

It’s not just fashion that is having a 90s and Noughties revival – so is makeup, and nothing screams “throwback beauty” more than a lip plumping gloss. Thankfully, this is very different to the sticky creations I used in my teens, but I definitely still felt a tingle when applying it. Makeup by Mario, created by Kim Kardashian’s makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic, has been growing rapidly since its launch in 2020 and the brand’s is undoubtedly going to be as big among Aussie beauty lovers as it is in the US. While its eyeshadow pallets have proved a firm favourite among consumers, these hydrating lip balms are definitely going to be popular. It comes in a string of shades too, so there’s someone for everyone.

Facetheory Glow-C Vitamin C 30% Serum

Price: $74

Affordable UK skincare brand Facetheory has just launched Down Under in Sephora stores – and I’ve been told with good authority this vitamin C product is the cult-item thanks to his potent formula and affordable price-tag. When you consider that there are other vitamin C serums on the market, with a lower percentage, that retail for almost $250 – it certainly seems like a product we’ll all be adding to our shopping lists. I can’t wait to get my hands on this one.

The Ordinary Niacinamide 5% Face and Body Emulsion

Price: $22

This budget cosmeceuticals brand has ventured into the body care space after noticing customers were using some of its most popular skincare products, designed for the face, on other areas of their body. While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with doing that, The Ordinary thought those who want to reap those same skincare benefits on their arms, legs and torsos might need slightly bigger versions, and the result is an entire new range. I’ve been loving this, as it’s a serum which is absorbed so quickly into my skin, and isn’t thick or gluggy like some body moisturisers. I’m now officially obsessed with using skincare on my body.
