'Are you joking? This is why I shop at ALDI': Woman's shopping haul comparison divides

The woman shared a video comparing her two shopping hauls and while there is a big difference, some weren't convinced it was a fair judgement. 

"I will die on this hill. If you’re not shopping at ALDI, what are you actually doing sis?"

That was the big question asked by a woman on TikTok this week after discovering the massive difference in price following a shop at the discount supermarket. 

With the price of groceries being all anyone is talking about right now, @zoe.schilling took to social media to share exactly what she got for her money at both ALDI and Coles. 

In her video, the shocked shopper points out two different hauls. One has a group of what appears to be well over 20 items on the kitchen bench (from ALDI), while the other has a little over 10 items (from Coles.

Both came in at roughly around the same price. 

"This is your sign to start shopping at ALDI," the woman declared in her video.

Amazed was an understatement. The woman couldn't believe that she could buy so many items for just $45 more from the German supermarket when a shop at one of the supermarket giants got her far less.

"Tell me how all of this, literally ALL of this, cost me $148.31. And then this from Coles -this was half price (pointing at a bottle of shampoo) and this was half price (a pack of crumpets) - all of this from Coles cost me $103.20!" she said. 

"Are you joking?! This is why I shop at ALDI and so should you."

The clip has amassed over 934K views, with many claiming they're also constantly shocked at how much value they get from shopping at ALDI. 

"I got 5 chock a block full bags from ALDI for $130!! including pre-packaged snacks, meat, fruit and frozen treats," one person commented. 

"ALDI is the best.😊," another insisted. 

"Bored one day so I did a price comparison chart between Woolies, Coles & ALDI. ALDI is by far cheaper across the board on everything," another chimed in. 

And another used the post as her sign to switch over: "Ok that’s it! I’ve been talking about for the last few weeks, but this has sold it to me! Aldi it is! 🙏 thanks for sharing."

Is it a fair comparison? 

Meanwhile, others weren’t convinced that the comparison was fair.

"Okay but you're not buying the same items? That's like getting the 4 most expensive items at ALDI and the 8 least expensive at Coles," one sceptic pointed out. 

"Not really a fair comparison… buy the same at both and see," another agreed. 

With that said, others claimed the key to buying cheap groceries is not choosing sides as such but chasing where the bargains are and buying items from multiple supermarkets depending on the price. It's about shopping a little smarter - even if it is harder. 

One person shared their tip: "ALDI for the basics and Woolworths for the things they don’t have 🤝🏽."

And others joined the conversation with the same tip. 

"LITERALLY. ALDI first and then Coles for anything special," one said.

"I shop at ALDI and Woollies. ALDI first, Woolies second. I do my shopping list on the Woolies app and get what’s cheapest at ALDI and Woolies still has cheap options on some things," another agreed.
