Aldi has announced a major change to its stores.
The German retailer has revealed it will be rolling out baskets across every store nationwide to help shoppers with their “weekly shop and dash in top-ups”.
Aldi made the announcement on its Facebook page on Monday to the delight of its customers.
“Finally!!! Thanks Aldi, now for more room to pack our bag at the checkout would be awesome!!!!” one person wrote.
“And about freakin time! I’m sick of pinching boxes to carry my stuff in,” another added.
Others have already spotted them at their local stores.
“We found them recently and absolutely love the addition!” one excited shopper wrote.
Up until recently, Aldi was the only major supermarket to not offer hand baskets for customers in need of just a few items.
An Aldi spokesperson said it understands customers are looking for greater convenience when they visit their stores.
“That’s why we’re introducing shopping baskets across all our locations, so our customers can more efficiently load up on goodies (on and off their intended lists) while doing smaller grocery shops,” the spokesperson told news.com.au.
Its move to introduce baskets comes off the back of a trial in some stores last July.
At the time, Aldi had confirmed that all stores will have baskets available by early 2022.
Some customers said that while they’re excited about the baskets, they’re looking forward to the day the retailer offers “smaller trolleys like the other supermarkets”.
“Sounds great, now could we please have some smaller trolleys, short people have to fall into the trolley to get the stuff out at the checkout,” one person wrote.
“I have spoken to head office about this ages ago but didn’t get a reply. I always see very old people struggling with the bid trolleys as well.”
“Smaller trolleys would be great too,” another added, while a third wrote: “Can we please have small trolleys as well thank.”
