Organisers of Adelaide’s Beer and BBQ Festival are hoping third time’s a charm when the annual event finally returns in July.
After the pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 festivals, the brews will be flowing and the barbecues fired up once more at the Adelaide Showground, to show off some of Australia’s – and the world’s – best beer and BBQ chefs.
Event director Aaron Sandow said it’s going to be a “bloody great feeling” when the gates open for the three-day festival, which will run from July 15-17.
“It’s no secret the last couple of years have been tough for us and everyone in the event
industry, but it’s pretty heartening to see all the positive messages we got and to see how
many loyal punters have held on to their ticket,” he said.
Top SA chefs Sarah Turner and Alana Brabin will be teaming up for a special barbecue collaboration called Big Bad Wolf, which will feature the state’s best female food producers.
“Sarah has a fine dining background so there will be a lot of finesse on the plate. We just want to cook great food and have a laugh,” Brabin said.
While the beer line-up will be announced in May, the festival’s food vendors include Melbourne’s iconic burger joint Huxtaburger, which is coming to Adelaide for the first time, Beatbox Kitchen, Sneaky Pickle, USA BBQ stalwarts RG’s and No Beard Required, B-Boys BBQ and Hoy Pinoy, Bread & Bone, Cheekies Hot Chicken and Taco Cartel.
More than just a food and drink event, the Beer and BBQ Festival will also feature a stellar live music line-up headlined by the Smith Street Band, punk legends Bodyjar and 28 Days, Wagons, indie darling Jess Lock, Scabz and new addition, Byron Bay surf rockers Skegss.
“It’s like a fully fledged music festival now bolted on to what was already like Christmas in July for beer and BBQ fans,” said Sandow. “We’re frothing.”
