'A kilo of chicken for 20c': Shopper bags $126 worth of groceries for $1.80

And it all comes down to knowing exactly when "markdown o'clock" is...

Easy budget hacks to save your family $$$

It's every bargain hunter's dream: getting a basket full of groceries for just a fraction of the regular price.

And thanks to the cozzie-liz (that's the cost of living to those uninitiated), people are getting savvier as they try and navigate the seemingly endless price hikes.

One particular shopper who managed to score a great bargain recently is a woman named Ash.

The Coles fan took to a popular markdowns Facebook group to share that she scored $126.50 worth of groceries for just $1.82.

Plus, she gave envious fans some of her best tips for finding the biggest discounts.

The epic haul with nothing over 11 cents

Ash took to the group to share photos of her haul, writing: "When you arrive right on markdown o'clock. And yes there was still plenty left on the shelf after I took what I needed."

Ash's haul included chicken breast and thighs, pork belly, barramundi, lettuce, carrots, Romano tomatoes, organic apples, 2L milk, dips, pre-packaged salads and dip.

Everything was 10 cents apart from the thighs which were a whopping 11 cents.

Ash explained that in order to nab the best deals, aim for "around dinnertime" to get the "end of day markdowns."

She also mentioned that all items were going out of date that day, but freezing things and batch cooking can solve that.

And lastly, she did note that she lives in regional Victoria, so metro locations might not have as good of a deal.

"Why can I never find bargains like this?"

The post now has over 300 comments from people who were shocked over her discounted grocery shop.

"I love the thrill of hitting the markdown jackpot. Good on you!" one person praised.

Another wrote, "Love seeing everyone's great scores as so many of us struggle to feed our families with such high prices."

Then this person asked, "Why oh why can I never find bargains like this? Go you!"

"Those bargains will taste even better knowing what you paid!" another woman pointed out.

The expiry date is the key to epic bargains

It's not the first time someone in the  markdown group has posted about 'markdown o'clock.'

Last year, another Aussie mum took to the page to share the best time to score bargains and it's similar to Ash's suggestion.

She said she managed to get $330 worth of meat and seafood from the supermarket for just $47 by knowing the secret markdown schedule.

"It could just be the time you go, they mark down items that are expiring that day by 80-90% but it is usually after 6 pm.

"Sometimes if you go after 6 pm and see that the product is expiring that day you can ask them to mark it down."
