With its chewy tapioca balls, the Taiwanese sweet treat that is bubble tea is bobbing up for the first time at this year’s OzAsia Festival.
Annette Shun Wah, is the artistic director of the three-week festival, which runs from October 20 to November 6.
She has been sampling the milk and fruity flavours which will be available from the Bubble Tea Garden, a new addition developed in consultation with members of Adelaide’s Taiwanese community.
Overlooking the festival’s famous Lucky Dumpling Market, it will be at the Festival Plaza on Saturday November 5 and Sunday, November 6 from noon until 6pm.
OzAsia artist Sam Lau and bubble tea fan India Ward joined Ms Shun Wah for the taste test.
“I love bubble tea and I can’t wait to get out in the sunshine, bring my friends along and try all different kinds,” Ms Ward said.
Highlights of this year’s OzAsia Festival include Chinese-Australian avant-garde composer Mindy Meng Wang’s When, SNAP by South Korea’s GRUEJARM Productions, Sue Healey’s The Long Walk, Margaret Leng Tan’s Dragon Ladies Don’t Weep and Michelle Law’s Single Asian Female.
