A brat or a typical toddler? Bluey fans are coming after poor Muffin

Some say she's "entitled and spoilt" while others have come to defend the pooch claiming she's just your typical "threenager". Where do you sit?

Bluey character criticised for bratty behaviour

By now you'd know that pretty much everyone loves Bluey. But there's one particular character that isn't as popular as the star herself, her sister Bingo, or relatable parents Bandit and Chilli.

Step into the spotlight... Muffin.

The toddler pooch is causing a rather heated debate between viewers and parents online because of her, let's just say, whiney and hyperactive ways.

Private groups on Facebook are constantly posting controversial opinions about Bluey and Bingo's little cousin and there are even Reddit threads that dive a little deeper into exactly what is going on with the Heeler.

One person recently took to the Adult Bluey Fans group on Facebook to ask if anyone else found the pup irritating.

"Does anyone else find Muffin really annoying? Like she’s a brat that needs some discipline," they shared.

And in rolled in over 230 comments.

"Yes I don’t like muffin as much as I thought I did lol. The faceytime episode actually p*sses me off so much," one person chimed in.

"Omg me! I was thinking this today like wtf how does anyone enjoy her?" another added.

And another simply commented: "Spoiled brat."

Leave poor Muffin alone

Understanding that Bluey is just a cartoon and that the characters are not actually human, many fans of the Aussie animation stepped in to defend poor little Muffin.

"She can definitely come off as bratty but I think that’s actually really important to show in children’s shows like this. Some kids are just really intense and opinionated like Muffin and that’s okay," one person insisted on Facebook.

"I love Muffin! She's got wild and crazy energy just like most toddlers, she's also only 3 or 4 years old. Most 3-4 years olds I've been around usually have a hard time reigning in their big emotions, just like Muffin," another added.

Another person got rather defensive claiming: "The generation of parents that think she needs discipline is the same generation that spanks or yells when they can’t handle kids having emotions."

And another fan shared: "I LOVE Muffin. She's a typical three-year-old. People need to give the Muffin hate a rest."

Is Muffin just a typical three-year-old or a product of bad parenting?

According to a Muffin debate thread on Reddit - one of many - Muffin is the epitome of an energetic three-year-old who hasn't been shown the ropes on how to be resilient.

"Muffin is probably the show's most polarising character. Some love her for how funny and how accurate to a three-year-old she is, some hate her for being a bit of a spoiled brat that doesn't get her comeuppance and may encourage kids to act the same. Both sides of the argument are understandable," a poster shared.

But one person disagreed, claiming: "Muffin is a bratty, entitled little sh*t."

Harsh.

Thankfully plenty of fans came to her aid, insisting it's not the dog's fault for not being able to control her emotions. In actual fact, her parents are mostly to blame for her behaviour.

"Muffin seems to me to be more a product of her parenting than being genuinely rotten. Which I think is the point. It shows the difference between the sets of parents. There are even occasional judgmental side eye and eye rolls," a fan pointed out.

Meanwhile, others thanked the creators of Bluey for bringing someone like Muffin to the show, because it either reminded them of their own childhood or what was currently happening in their own household as a parent to someone similar.

"I most likely was much worse than Muffin at the same age, also hyperactive and imaginative, and my parents let me be," one person shared.

"I think she reminds me of my stepsister growing up, along with being the epitome of every behaviour I DO NOT tolerate. Anyone else who gets triggered by a cartoon toddler dog? Lol"

Well, to answer that question. It appears as though MANY have been triggered.
