When Vanessa Morrison had her breasts enlarged by an Australian plastic surgeon just before Covid hit, she instantly hated them.
“He did my boobs way too big, I was huge. I wasn’t happy,” the Perth-based businesswoman and grandmother, whose breasts went from a D cup to an F, said.
“I felt like I had bricks on my chest because they were so heavy. I play a lot of tennis and I do pilates and I just found they got in the way. I always felt very conscious of my boobs after he did them.”
Late last month, Ms Morrison travelled to Istanbul to have a Turkish surgeon fix her “botched” job. She spent $10,000 on a breast lift and augmentation that has taken her from an F cup to a double D.
And the 55-year-old said she was so happy with her result, she had already booked to return to Turkey early next year to have a full face, brow and neck lift.
“I’m feeling fantastic,” says Ms Morrison, who came home to Perth last week.
“There’s virtually no scarring, he’s done all the stitching inside, it’s just unbelievable. I’m not in any pain.
“I flew back home last Wednesday night and I was able to start work Thursday afternoon.”
Ms Morrison – who runs hair extension business Highend Hair Supplies – said she spent 10 days in Istanbul, including one day in hospital where she was monitored every 10 minutes.
“They checked on me, they got me up, walked me around, they fed me, watered me, did everything I needed and honestly I’ve never been treated like that, it was amazing,” she said.
“In Perth, I was sent home after three hours with painkillers. It was just so different.
“Their hospitals (in Turkey) are so good, so clean and so beautiful.”
Ms Morrison, who has had Botox and lip fillers in the past, said she chose to have surgery to boost her confidence.
“I was feeling very down and out in myself and having this has given me such a boost and I just feel like a new person, you know, coming back to Australia,” the divorcee said.
“And now I feel like I can get out there and start dating again. I cannot wait to get back on the tennis court.
“I just feel new and fresh. I feel amazing.”
Ms Morrison, who has documented her plastic surgery journey on TikTok to help empower other women, said she had copped some online criticism about her decision to have surgery in Turkey, warning her of “botched jobs”.
“But I did my due diligence … and my gut was telling me I was right so I go with what my gut feels and I try not to listen to any negative advice,” she said.
“Of course you’re going to get your haters and stuff, that’s just how it is, but I’m just going to be me and do me.”
She said her face, brow and neck lift, which she had already booked for March next year, was going to cost her $20,000, compared to about $70,000 if she had the procedures in Australia.
“I found my own surgeon and he’s one of the top 10 plastic surgeons,” she said.
“It’s not only cheaper over there, it’s better, they are more advanced.”
Ms Morrison said she already attracted compliments about her looks but she wanted her face surgery to make her look “snatched and fresh”.
“I actually do look after myself. I’m 56 very soon and I actually get told people always think I’m about 35. My daughter’s 35 and they think we’re sisters,” she said.
“With my surgery, I don’t particularly want to look 20 but if he makes me look 20 I’m not going to say no.”
