Delta Goodrem has postponed her April arena tour of Australia until September.

The chart-topping musician had hoped to be the first local artist to bring back arena touring after the COVID shutdown, announcing the tour last July.

However ongoing uncertainty with COVID restrictions for indoor arenas in each state has seen Goodrem and promoters TEG bump the dates back six months.

The shows will remain in the same venues, with Goodrem moving her sixth album back as well - it was originally planned to be released to coincide with the April dates.

Goodrem said the difficult decision was made with safety in mind.

“Performing live shows and being together in the one room with my fans means so much to me,” Goodrem said.

“Since we announced the tour my priority has always been the safety and health of fans, crew and venue staff and we remain committed to ensuring the indoor concert experience is the safest and absolute best it can be.

“We’ve given this a tremendous amount of thought and whilst we are incredibly optimistic of how things are improving, out of an abundance of caution and to be certain of the best experience for fans coming to the shows and all of the staff and crew working on the tour, we’ve made the difficult decision to move the tour to September and October.

“We are greatly encouraged by the improvement in the national touring outlook and whilst I would love to be touring in April, we believe that waiting an extra few months will put our hearts and minds beyond doubt.

“I am overwhelmed with the support of people coming to the shows, so hang on to your tickets. Same show, same seats, new dates. I cannot wait to bring this tour to life and for it to be a huge celebratory night of fun, music, love and light.”

Industry sources say Goodrem’s tour has sold incredibly well - upsizing venues in Melbourne - but artists and promoters are still cautious about taking an expensive production on a national tour with the possibility of border closures and possibly reducing audience capacity.

Outdoor concerts have been favoured for larger audiences over summer, where seats can be moved to give the necessary social distancing of two square meters per person to meet COVIDsafe guidelines. There are also still differing rules in each state over whether people can stand and dance at indoor shows, or if masks are required to be worn by the audience.

While some indoors shows have returned around Australia, they are being held in theatres not arenas and some are required to operate with reduced capacities.
