Tyler Perry compares Meghan Markle to his mother, who was abused

One of the famous friends who helped Harry and Meghan relocate to the US has compared Meghan’s experience in the royal family to domestic abuse.

The sixth and final episode of Harry & Meghan has followed the couple’s exit from the UK, detailing how famous pal Tyler Perry put them up for the first few months in California.

The episode opened with Harry filming a video diary from a private plane, documenting their “freedom flight” to their now-home in LA.

Meghan recalled “crying and crying” on the phone to Perry while in Canada following the bombshell announcement they were stepping down in 2020, with Perry speaking of how his desire to help Meghan stemmed from his memories of Princess Diana being “thrown to the wolves”.

He went on to liken Meghan’s experience to his own mother’s, who was abused.

“I saw my mother be abused for years, I knew the symptoms, I knew what it was like … This woman was abused,” he said of Meghan.

“To use the institution to do all the things that a batterer would do … ‘Here’s what We’re going to cut off the money, we’re going to not leave you with security, all these things to make you comply and come back’,” Perry said, as Meghan went on to recall his generous offer.

“He was like, ‘My house is safe, and I will make sure you have security, and you take your time’.”

The couple say they went undetected at Perry’s mansion for six weeks until the press got wind of their location.

In phone footage, Meghan and Harry are seen marvelling over a circling helicopter as they lament their loss of privacy.

“Oh my god, they’re just circling. What is wrong with these people?,” Meghan is heard saying in a dramatic whisper.

The first three episodes of the docu-series were largely centred around the US-based couple’s relationship, the lead-up to their 2018 wedding, and Meghan’s first introduction to Prince William and Princess Kate, which she described as “surprising”.

Harry also revealed that he and Meghan started dating after first connecting on Instagram. Elsewhere, Meghan said their memorable 2017 engagement interview was as “orchestrated reality show,” explaining that everything was “rehearsed”.

Despite their long-awaited docu-series now released in its entirety, the royal family have another Harry and Meghan storm to weather, with Harry’s memoir Spare to be released on January 10th.
