‘We’re no home-wreckers’ says Channel 9 as The Block’s Steve and Chantelle and Kyal and Kara are put under pressure

NINE denies it’s a “home-wrecker” amid rumours of frayed relationships as Kyal and Kara win the final room reveal by half a point over Brad and Dale.

CHANNEL 9 has been forced to assure viewers of The Block: Fans v Faves that couples Steve and Chantelle and Kyal and Kara are still together.

The move comes after last night’s program showed both couples struggling to keep their relationships afloat.

The pressure of more than 10 weeks of constant grind creating apartments in Albert Park had seemingly shredded the love.

Steve and Chantelle have been dating for two years. Kyal and Kara have been married for six years.

Footage aired on tonight’s program detailed the disintegration of both pairs — with Steve and Chantelle bickering non-stop and Kyal and Kara sleeping apart.

At various points Chantelle said ”can I have a different partner today please”, “this week has been bad for our relationship”.

Reports have appeared suggesting Steve and Chantelle had to be counselled by the show’s creator, Julian Cress.

Kyal said “we’ve definitely had our hurdles along the way” as footage was shown of Kara sobbing.

Nine says both couples are still together as The Block: Fans v Faves heads toward its April 8 auctions.

“Being on The Block is like a pressure cooker environment,” a Nine spokesperson says.

“The stresses of renovating on strict timelines, with limited sleep, can test even the strongest of relationships.

“All of our contestants had their share of ups and downs this series, but Steve and Chantelle, as well as Kyal and Kara, are still both very much together.”

Kyal and Kara won tonight’s final room reveal — for the rooftop and first floor balconies as well as room re-dos.

The couple grabbed $10,000 for their victory — bringing their total winnings from challenges and room reveals to a whopping $74,800.

The pair nabbed 28.5 points to pip Brad and Dale on 28. Alisa and Lysandra scored 25 points and Steve and Chantelle 22.

Kyal and Kara’s first floor balcony featured a vertical garden and a large arched window.

“This is almost like an outdoor theatre,” judge Shaynna Blaze said as she surveyed the first floor balcony.

Neale Whitaker added: “It’s very simple and pared back but it extends the living space nicely.”

In another outdoor space, they replaced their water feature with an outdoor shower. Their rooftop terrace featured plenty of wood — and stunning views.

“Our apartment is the smallest so we have used some tricks to make it look bigger,” Kara said after the judging.

Host Scott Cam revealed that the couples’ final challenge before auction day will be to completely renovate two family homes in the outer Melbourne suburb of Greensborough.
