Marty Sheargold has emerged as the winner in a Triple M shake-up.
It’s a bit confusing, so bear with me.
At the moment, The Marty Sheargold Show is heard nationally from 3-4pm.
That will continue next year, with listeners in NSW and Qld to then get an additional two hours of Sheargold each afternoon from 4-6pm.
“I’m looking forward to returning to the Drive shift for NSW and Queensland listeners in 2025 and giving them the extended version of the show,” the comedian said in a statement.
Local shows axed
The extension of The Marty Sheargold Show in NSW and Qld means that a couple of local radio shows will be axed at the end of the year.
The Rush Hour with Leisel Jones, Liam Flanagan, and Ben ‘Dobbo’ Dobbin (which airs in Queensland from 4-6pm) is one of the casualties.
At the moment it’s unclear if the three hosts will be offered new roles within the network.
In NSW, The Rush Hour with Gus Worland and Jude Bolton will also wrap up at the end of the year.
This isn’t too surprising given Worland announced last month that he would not be returning to Triple M in 2025 after 16 years with the network.
Sheargold gave the departing shows a shout out in Friday’s press release, saying, “I also wanted to thank the teams from the Sydney, Brisbane/Gold Coast and Queensland Rush Hour shows who have all had amazing stints and been hugely entertaining. I’m committed to carrying on their legacies.”
What about the other states
The Rush Hour with James Brayshaw and Billy Brownless is the other big winner in the Triple M shake-up.
From next year, their popular drive show will be heard from 4-6pm each weekday in Melbourne, Hobart, Adelaide, Perth, as well as some of Triple M’s regional stations.
Once again, a couple of local shows were axed to make way for Brayshaw and Brownless’ extended broadcasting area.
It had already been announced that Triple M Adelaide’s The Rush Hour with Bernie Vince, Greg Blewett, Andrew Jarman would not be returning in 2025.
The same goes for 92.9 Triple M Perth’s The Rush Hour with Andrew Embley and Katie Lamb.
In a statement, Brayshaw and Brownless said, “We’re excited that our live show will now be extended for our listeners in South and Western Australia, which are legendary footy states with an incredible history of successes, as Bill knows because he attends all their premiership reunions.”
They added, “we also want to acknowledge the Adelaide and Perth Rush Hour teams, many of whom are great mates, and congratulate them on their shows.
“We don’t underestimate the opportunity we have been given and we are focused on creating a show that honours them and their listeners.”
